14 Using Fiction to Create a More Engaging Work of Nonfiction, with James McGrath Morris
Workshop Time: 9 a.m.-Noon and 1-4 p.m. Location: The Performance Space at La Tienda, 7 Caliente Road, (corner of Vista Grande and Hwy 285) in Eldorado (outside Santa Fe) For today's readers, nonfiction must be told in a compelling fashion. One of the best ways to achieve this is to make use of writing techniques that are used successfully in fiction. This workshop focuses on five specific fiction techniques and also how certain kinds of research can provide material suitable for this approach. Participants will examine shaping a story, creating scenes, writing dialog, making details work, and using research to provide engaging texture.
